Four friends have teamed up to provide Haverhill with a new home-delivered eating experience - authentic Spanish tapas. Calling themselves De Maravilla Tapas (translated as wonderful tapas), the quartet consists of long-time friends David Rodriguez, Antonio Sanchez, Roi Fernandez and Telmo Ferreira. All but Telmo, who is Portuguese, are originally from La Coruna in Spain.

David and Antonio take care of the cooking and delivery in Haverhill, where both live. They are neighbours. London-based Roi (whose Instagram account, 'Chef Roi', has 36,000 followers) and Crawley-based Telmo, both of whom are experienced chefs, offer advice and culinary support via video calls.

Since launching in mid November, the business, which currently provides a pre-order home delivery service on Saturday and Sunday only, has already garnered more than 500 likes on its Facebook page.

David has a background in the restaurant trade, mostly in management. He has latterly been working as a bus driver for Stephensons, but a serious road collision in Horringer in June, which saw him off work for four months due to his injuries, proved a catalyst for change. He said: "I thought, what can i do to go back to catering and my wife said why don't you give it (the new venture) a try." The kitchen was readied to meet the requirements of West Suffolk Council inspectors (David gave particular thanks to council officer Claire McKenna for her help) and it has received a five-star food hygiene rating, He added: "Haverhill has been excellent. The first weekend you can see on Facebook that they've been excellent. The support is incredible."

Ingredients are bought fresh, and where possible local suppliers are used, such as Kedington Butchers and Paul Firman Fruit and Veg. Roi said: "It's really important for us to work with local businesses. "We know we can go to the supermarkets and buy things cheaper but that's not what we want because the community is helping us and we want to help them back."

And having sampled De Maravilla Tapas for myself, all i can say is, "give it a try, you won't be disappointed".
